Current Exhibit, SummerView 2008

The SummerView exhibit will be open during the months of June, July and August, Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 6:00 p.m. Friday nights, June 27 – July 25, the Gallery will be open until 9:00 p.m. for Friday Nights Downtown.

Art in the Loft is located on the third floor of the Center Building in Downtown Alpena. The Loft originated as a temporary experiment to see how well a fine arts gallery would be received. Over 1,000 people visited the gallery during its initial five-week operation.

This year promises to be filled with great opportunities and excitement for both artists and visitors of the Loft. Thanks to the generous donations of many area businesses and residents, our new stairway is complete. This allows us to increase our occupancy and accommodate large events and receptions.

We have an exciting year of exhibits and events planned at Art in the Loft.

Drawing to Capture the Animal

This class is an introduction to drawing animals and wildlife. The last half will also introduce field sketching by providing student with a live model. This class is open to adults and students 15 years and older. (Younger students must provide a small portfolio of work to indicate their level)

Line Drawing the -Foundation of All Artwork

We will be exploring the power of line while exploring these concepts:

● Thick vs. Thin line
● Contour line
● Creating 3-dimensionality with only line

Recognizing all objects are made up of shapes and drawing these shapes to make a complicated drawing

12.45PM-4.30PM shading with drawing materials, creating the illusion of 3-dimensionality and drawing the live, moving animal
